If you don’t know the names of Florida’s attorney general, chief financial officer or agriculture commissioner, rest assured: you’ll start hearing them — a lot — very soon. Each of those statewide elected officials -- Bill McCollum, Alex Sink and Charles Bronson --hope to become marquee names to Florida voters during the next 18 months.
Each hopes to become well-known and popular, raise mountains of money, and get elected the 45th governor of Florida on Nov. 2, 2010.
The Democrats
Sink, serving in her first term as the state’s chief financial officer, is the obvious front-runner for a big reason. Besides U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, she’s the only Democrat in Florida in statewide elective office. As a former banking executive, she brings a business background often not seen among Democratic candidates.
